The University of Health Sciences was inaugurated on 09th April, 1986 by Shri N.T.Rama Rao garu, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
The Government of Andhra Pradesh, by the University of Health Sciences Act,
1986 (Act 6 of 1986) have constituted the University of Health Sciences. In G.O.Ms.No. 661, Health, Medical and Family Welfare dated 13-10-1986 the
Government appointed 01.11.1986 as the date on which the said Act shall came into force. The Government in their G.O.Ms.No. 662, Health, Medical and Family
Welfare dated 13-10-1986, have notified that the Headquarters of the University shall be at Vijayawada.
In view of the agreement between Government and Siddhartha Academy for
eventual transfer of Siddhartha Medical College to the University, the Siddhartha
Academy were requested to allot rooms in Siddhartha Medical College for
functioning of University.
Dr.K.N.Rao has been appointed as Vice Chancellor by the Chancellor of the
University vide G.O.Ms.No. 667, dated:18.10.1986 Health, Medical and Family
Welfare department.
Taking over of the Siddhartha Medical College and other insituions:
The Government requested Siddhartha Academy of Technical and General
Education to hand over the possession of buildings and other facilities of SMC
on 07-10-1986 and handed over on 18-12-1986 with certain terms and
conditions.
Transfer of 08 Teaching institutions was on 01-02-1987. Taking over of
Mangalagiri Hospital Campus vide G.O.Ms.No.832, dated:11-12-1986, HM & FW
department, transferring the land of 214 acres to construct the University.
From 02.02.1998 the AP University of Health Sciences named as NTR University
of Health Sciences. From 22-12-2000, the University of Health Sciences Act is
called as the NTR University of Health Sciences Act, 1986, vide AP Gazette
No. 15. Dated April 21, 2001. Further vide Act No. 16 of 2006 NTR University of
Health Sciences renamed as Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences.
G.O.Ms.No. 507 dated 22-12-2000, Siddhartha Medical College and other institutions delinked from University of Health Sciences to Government.
